Visitors to Mooihoek Strawberry Farm can come and pick their own fresh strawberries when open in season. Always check our Facebook Page before leaving your destination. CLOSED SUNDAYS.

Berry Barn Venue is available to hire through-out the year for weddings or functions up to 80 guests. 

Essential Information

Pick Your Own: Rules

  • Each person requires their OWN tubs before entering the fields
  • NO SHARING (unless you are under 4 years old)
  • Do not overfill. Overfill of tubs will be removed
  • Only pick in marked picking zones
  • No other containers will be allowed on the fields
  • No picking in hats & caps
  • No refilling
  • No jumping on or over rows
  • No plant material to be taken
  • No pets allowed on the farm
  • Please, no outside food and drinks allowed
  • No alcohol allowed
  • No Smoking or vaping allowed anywhere on farm
  • No Picnicking in our parking area
  • Please respect neigbouring farms and refrain from picking their fruit.

Directions to Mooihoek

Take the Hankey Turnoff from the N2 Highway.

(R331 from Port Elizabeth or R330 from Humansdorp)

Drive for approximately 24km (17 minutes) until you reach a 4 way stop with the SPAR visible on your right side. Follow the road towards Patensie.

You may notice Hankey schools to your left and right just before the Brown Mooihoek Strawberry Icon signpost on your left.

Also look out for a big green signpost for Backhousehoek, Milton and Vensterhoek.

Turn left and carry on for another 5 minutes following the Strawberry Icon signs.

Park your vehicle in the designated parking area.

Food & Drinks

Our kiosk is located near the fields and sells the most delicious ice cold & fresh smoothies, soft serve ice cream, strawberry juice, water, frozen and dried berries as well as homemade snacks such as strawberry cheesecake, boereworsrolls and lots more to enjoy there under the shade.  Please, no outside food and drinks will be allowed.

There will be something for all to make this an unforgettable experience for yourself and the rest of the visitors.

Wheelchair Access

We welcome wheelchair users to Mooihoek, however our grounds can be uneven.  We want our guests with special needs to have as much fun as possible, and there will be enough space along the strawberry blocks where they can operate.  

Please ask our Berry Crew for assistance.  They will show you where to park and help in any way possible.  Unfortunately we do not currently have a disabled toilet available.

What to Bring

Your whole family?
Sunscreen, Hat, umbrella, comfortable shoes and a lot money to spoil yourself.  Please, no outside food and drinks allowed.  Support our kiosk next to the fields.

Comfy Clothing.

It can become very hot in the full sun, so wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Bring an umbrella to protect against the sun and it can be handy when it rains, especially if you have young children with you.

Remember a hat & sunscreen. We have limited shaded areas close to the fields.

Hints and Tips

  • Check our Facebook page before visiting us for any announcements.
  • Arrive early in the mornings while the strawberries are nice and cool!
  • Look through the plants, moving the leaves away to search for the best berries
  • Choose strawberries that are bright red without a white shoulder
  • Inspect the strawberry to make sure it looks healthy.
  • Break the strawberry off by holding the stalk between your thumb and index finger using a snapping motion

Only persons who have purchased a TUB are allowed into the fields.  Children under 4 are allowed to share a tub with mom or dad. 

Seating area available.

Please no outside food and drinks and NO picnicking in our parking area!

NO pets allowed due to health and safety regulations.

Card facilities are available.
